GRAY BLADES 3 - HAWKS 1

John is getting ready for the game.

Steve is checking to make sure that he is on the starting line up. Rich forgot to bring the white board so there was no pregame strategy speech this week. 

Dryds and Paul hook up to look after the offense. Dryds goes top shelf for one and chips in a cross crease pass for another.  Paul goes top shelf on a breakaway to ground the Hawks. Dryds gets 2 goals + 1 helper. Paul chips in with a goal + an assist.  

Regular season ends with the 

Blades in a 3-way tie for second place. After the tie-breaker rules are applied, final standings have Strangers in 1st, Lyons in 2nd, Gray Blades 3rd and Hawks 4th. 

Playoffs start next week. Format is a 3 game round robin + ends with the 'ship. 

GRAY BLADES 7 - LYONS 6

Owen prepared defensive tactics and positional play to defend against the Lyons offense.  Coach Rich brought out the white board to show what Owen was talking about. The Blades were told that defending against the Lyons set plays was going to be the key to success.  

As it turned out, Owen lost that guys after he said "listen carefully", because they decided that scoring 7 goals can also result in success. 

Chads broke in on their goalie and put it along the ice for a goal. On the bench, he told Dryds that he was trying to go top shelf. Later on a nice pass from Dryds, Chads put it along the ice for a goal. On the bench, he told Dryds that he was trying to go top shelf.  Third time was the charm, as Chads did put it top shelf for the trick. 

Dryds and Rich got 3 assists each. Jim would have been proud.  Paul and Reg got 2 goals each to round out the scoring.  

Turf Care Rock Tuesday Hockey

Turf Care plays on Tuesdays at the fabulous Westwood Arena.  Ron sponsors the team, Reg reps the team, Robbo tends goal, Gordo makes sure that Robbo gets shutouts, Murray covers up for Gordo and Jim gathers assists like there's no tomorrow. 

Turf Care closed out the regular season by winning 8 of the last 10 games.

NOT SO SUPER BOWL

Jim hosted his annual Super Bowl party - something like 35 consecutive years. 

Jim and Robbo relaxing in the cigar tent which was perfect. Mainly because it was a mild 8 degrees C. 

 Good to see Bill Dyman. He is looking forward to golfing in this year's Grand Bend Invitational. 

 John claiming that he was innocent of something or another.

 The kitchen crowd. There is a television in the corner by Kelly.  But apparently, there nothing of interest on TV tonight.  

 Here's some of the pool sheets with winners marked up. Look hard - winners include Tom, Reg, Robbo + Andy from Tuesday's Turf Care team. 

And the $1000 pool winner is John. 
What a ham. I think that there is something wrong with him. 

Oh yeah, Patriots won again. 

GRAY BLADES 2 - POND 1

Lots of breakaways and other scoring chances but Gray Blades had a very low batting average this week. 

Missed Rich this week. He has been working on his shot + heard that he will soon be lighting it up.   

 Owen was looking for 3 from Hal after his 2 goal performance last week.  Hal started off with a goal on his first shift but was held off the scoresheet after that.  

 Paul had a breakaway in the second period and scored the game winner.  He made it look so easy to score - skate in, shoot high over the glove and the puck hits the mesh.  

With a win this week, the Gray Blades have a 10-6-3 record and are at least 4 points ahead of the 5th place Caseys. With 2 regular season games left, Blades have 4th place clinched and will be in the top tier for the playoffs.
