Gary Blades 6 Derbys 3

DSCN3709 from Tom Dallimore on Vimeo.
Down 3 to 1 early in the first period before we even knew where we were

But not to worry, late in the first period, Colin one times a beauty from the point that bulges the twine...but the refs decided that the net was loose so the goal did not count...so one again we were playing 2 teams!!

So late in the 2nd period, Faster Pete scores a beauty to make it 3 to 2 for the bad guys and we are back in the game!!

So.....in the 3rd period, they start to run out of gas with only 2 lines and we took control scoring 4 goals!!

2 by Andy, and 2 by Quiggs, and singles to Pete and Reg ..and we remain undefeated

You don't tug on superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger
And you don't mess around with Owen......or so Jim found out!!...apologies not excepted!!...Maybe you had to be there!!

Once again, Faster Pete brought his dinner for the post game and making everyone hungry while we watched....sitting next to the newly retired Quiggs, who can now seek work with Stone!!

And back at Jacks, they were waiting for us

Tanya looked after us as usual!!

From Cub reporter Reg:

Blades 3 – Hawks 1
Tom was practicing his shots in FLA. Jim was also training in the sunshine state.  Kerry was called to NYC to share his business savvy with Donald.  It was good to have Dryds in action this week. This year, he has missed games due to sciatic nerve pain. Last year, his season ended early with a punctured lung.  Here’s hoping that the team budget will allow for a doctor or at least a drug dealer.
The supermoon transformed the Hawks into a bunch of wackjobs.  Early in the game, it looked like Pete was going to be challenged to a fight except the challenger lost his nerve and gave Pete a long range spear.  Murray’s foreman is black and blue thanks to a brutal two-hander from a lumberhawk.  During a puck battle along the boards, Dave had his helmet ripped off his head but ended up getting a penalty because the other guy stumbled and fell hard to the ice.  No one could figure out that penalty call.
Owen has a hot hand right now and is riding a two game scoring streak.  He got the first goal on a wrister from the high slot. The team looks forward to Owen’s tall tale next week when he recounts his goal scoring prowess.  John made it 2-0 late in the first period.  The Hawks made it interesting by scoring with 6 minutes left in the third period. But the Blades put the game away when Andy made a rush and made a perfect pass to the front of their net for a one-touch finish by Reg.  Final was 3-1 with Andy and Jim each ending up with 3 assists.

Gary Blades 1 Lyons 1

Johnny lets one rip from the circle

This is a rough team, they take no prisoners...both goalies played well

Jim is ready!!...we were missing Andy, Chads, Kerry Tom and Murray

They had 3 lines to our 2 and we had only 3 D

Robbo was away, but Patrick Roy filled in admirably

It was end to end all night long
So we remain tied for first place after 8 games, sharing with Lyons at 13 points a piece, 4 points ahead of 2nd!!

We have the best goals against record in the league and Lyons have the best goals for at this point. The Lyons are averaging 5 goals per game

We pulled our Goalie with a minute to play IMG 0016 from Tom Dallimore on Vimeo.

And Quiggs wins the face-off to Owen who powers it in at the 0.58 second mark to earn the tie

And when the buzzer went there was a little kerfuffle ....but Jim Stone had his 3 assists!!

Gray Blades at the Master Card Centre by Cub Reporter Reg

Gray Blades rolled into the Mastercard Centre for their annual match against the Etobicoke Oldtimers.  A lot of the Blades must have been in this weekend’s triathlon because they were not at the rink.  We had a short bench. Colin and Gord were glad to have Ron and Robin (from John’s other team) join us on defence.  Gord talked Whitney into coming out to add some offence into the lineup.  The call went out to Omaha and Bill and that other guy took the overnight bus ride to round out the lineup.  This accounts for the very slow start.  Etobicoke skated to an early 5-0 lead.  Jim then decided that enough was enough and deposited his own rebound into the net to start the comeback.  During the next period or so, we got goals John, Reg and Bill to make the score 5-4.  Ex-NHLer Doug Patey who started their scoring, made a nice cross ice pass to set up their final goal.  After the game, we had a few pops in their dressing room.  They have a sweet set up with individual dressing stalls, a kitchenette and a beer fridge.  They skate 3 times a week on that rink and I think that they will soon become a cohesive unit.  We will see these guys in the new year in their Etobicoke Oldtimers tournament.

From Cub reporter Reg!

Gray Blades 4 – Golden Pond 1
Our first line got things going with John hammering home a rebound after strong play in the O-zone with Murray and Mark.  Not to be outdone, Jim stepped up his game in the second period with him and Kerry getting assists on two goals by Reg.  Gord, Owen + Colin took care of the D limiting the ponders to perimeter shots and Colin closed out the scoring with a wrist shot from the point that found its way to the back of the net. Robbo was solid in net, stopping shots and covering up rebounds.  Back to Jack’s to rehydrate.  Big game Sunday versus Etobicoke at MasterCard Centre.  Heard that Matthews ad Marner will be out to watch and learn from anonymous.
