Gray Blades 3 - Hawks 3

Last game of 2018 ended in a 3-3 tie vs Hawks.

 Steve scored the first goal and Paul scored the other two for the Blades.

Lyon's 5 - Gray Baldes 3

The games are close checking against Lyons and this game was no exception. The game was tied 2-2 after the first period.  The checking was tight and the referees put away their whistles.  Lyons play a physical game and if it wasn't a shoulder, it was a stick that they used to slow you down. The game ended with a flurry of goals - 3 in the last minute. 

When it was all said and done, Lyons scored 1 offside goal, 1 with the net off its moorings + 2 into an empty net. 

For the Blades, Hal got one + Reg scored twice.

POND 1 - BLADES 1

Wins are not a sure thing this year. Gray Blades are having problems stringing wins together right now. Although outshooting and outchancing the opposition again, the Gray Blades tied Golden Pond 1-1.

 

 Mike filled in as goalie again this week. He brought some Canada Bread products to share with the team.

  The goal was scored on a nice passing play from Owen to Chads to Dryds.  Dryds beat their defencemen and shot the puck into the net.

Kerry got a loaf of raisin bread. So he went home happy. 

Next week is the annual Gray Blades Christmas gathering. An anonymous source says that many founding Gray Blades will be gracing the event with their presence.

Gray Blades 5 - Mimico 1

Tom dropped by to say Hi. 

Last week's loss was costly and the Gray Blades find themselves in 4th place. Tom told the team to smarten up because the team has never been so low in the standings.   

The team responded with 5 goals, 1 each to Kerry, John, Paul, Andy and Reg. 

 December 1st means Christmas is around the corner + Nylander's fate will be resolved. The Gray Blades Christmas gathering is being planned for the 13th.

Gray Blades played Coopers who are sitting in last place with 1 win. They now have 2 wins. WTF

Lots of scoring chances but not enough goals. 6-3 final score.  

That's it. Game over. Move on.

Gray Blades 3 - Caseys 1

The Gray Blades find themselves in 3rd place after 8 games with a 4-3-1 record.  To move up, the Blades will have to play good games to beat the Strangers + Lyons. 

Gerry is recovering and will be out of action for a while. This week, Mike from the Corebetts league played goal.  He played a solid game. and the Gray Blades beat Caseys 3-1. 

Paul broke in on his off wing and put one in with a wrist shot just inside the far post. Andy beat their D and went top shelf for a beauty. Andy then banked a shot off Reg's shin pad for the 3rd goal. Blades had a dozen great chances but could not get any more. Paul was robbed by a desperate lunge + toe save. Chads found himself face to face with their goalie but could not close the deal. 

Refreshments were served at Jack Astors + Rich Holder made a guest appearance this week. 

Strangers 4 - Gray Blades 3

Solid effort by the Gray Blades.  The Strangers are the new team but they are getting familiar. The score was 2-2 after the first period and 3-3 in the second. They got the winning goal late in the game. The refs allowed the Strangers take a couple slap shots including one that counted as a goal.   

Gerry is out for a few weeks recovering from an operation. Mike plays with John on Wednesday nights and played net for the Blades.  

Rich continues to help out on the offensive side of the puck.  He gave John a beauty stretch pass for a breakaway and John finished it off by going top shelf. Rich then made a no look redirect pass to Reg for another goal. Paul skated miles and scored on a rebound for the other goal.  

Jack Astor's was open again after their minor renovation shut down.    

Hawks 3 - Gray Blades 3

Gray Blades were missing a lot of bodies this week - Gerry, Kerry, Chads, Dryds and Paul. 

Enzo skates with John A and in the Corbett's league. He helped out the forwards.  

John's line with Enzo and Hal provided the offence this week. John lead the way with 2 goals. Owen stepped up to get score a beauty. Hal and Enzo had assists on all 3 goals.   

Plans to rehydrate at Jack Astor's after the game did not work out. Rumours are that they heard that Rich was coming, so they closed shop and went home.   

Mike came from the Corbett's league to play goal this week and made key saves late in the game to keep the score tied. 

Back to the drawing board

Gray Blades played the other team that goes to Jack Astors for refreshments after Thursday night games.  With Jack's closed for a quick renovation, both teams had to go to Plan B post-game.  
The game was not pretty. Gerry saw a lot of rubber and Lyons skated off with a 7-0 win. WTF 

Kerry leads Gray Blades to a big win with a HAT TRICK

Kerry and Paul dominated the game with Kerry chalking up 3 goals + 1 assist and Paul adding a goal + 3 assists. Singles went to Reg, Crit and Rich. The game was close after one period (2-1) but the Blades pulled away in the second period.  Final score was Gray Blades 7 - Golden Pond 1. 

The Gray Blades are in 2nd place. But the standings are close. 3 points separate the top 6 teams. In preparation for next week's game against the Lyons, Owen set up a defensive zone face off play. Hope it works next week. 

Maple Leafs trying to keep up with the Gray Blades

Gray Blades have a 5.0 Goals For Average with 20 goals in 4 games.  The Leafs are doing their best to keep pace with 25 in 5. This week, the Gray Blades pummeled Mimico 8-2.

Chads was on fire, leading the offense with 3 goals + 2 assists. Dryds was right there as well with 2 goals + 3 assists. 

Rich said he got 6 assists but the refs only gave him credit for 3. An anonymous source says that he is scheming to take over as the all-time assist leader.  

Singles went to Steve, Reg and Paul.

Gray Blades 7 - Coopers 1

A lot of offense was on display. Rich started off the scoring with a coast-to-coast Orr/Coffey rush.  Paul is on a roll and added 2 more goals to his total. On a breakaway, he shot it right at the goalie's chest protector but somehow it counted as a goal. He explained that he put the puck thru a 3 inch gap under the goalie's arm. 

Other goals were by Chads, Steve, Dryds (beauty top shelf shot) and Reg.  After the game, coach Rich told his teammates that they made too many mistakes and that they will have to play better defensively in the upcoming weeks. What a mood killer. Next week is next week, let's enjoy this week.  

   

In the summer league, the Gray Blades were short players, so Tom recruited players from work. It turns out that Rick played for the Blades in the summer and against them this week.
