Gray Blades 7 Harco 2

from Cub reporter Reg who somehow played last night even though he was suppose to be out for 6 weeks!!not sure if he has his own hyperbolic chamber!!

Veterans turn back the clock as the Gray Blades dominate Harco and skate to a 7-2 victory. Jim opened + closed the goal scoring and Murray scored on a nice deflection on Gord's shot from the point. The team had many aches, pains and injuries but Dr. Pete's mysterious ointment took care of everything. It was good to see Andy back on the ice after a lengthy layoff with a back injury. Blades played tic tac toe in the o zone all night. Other goals were scored by Dryds, Crit,  Chads and Quiggs.

Circa Jan 2009, Da Blades meet for a party at Craig's  Farm in Bradford, might have been for his 60th Birthday, but I cannot remember!!

I will miss the game this Thursday with a hand injury that would cripple an ordinary man,,,,, and without Reg , I am worried about who will do a game report!!

Doug Hammond, not sure where he came from!!,Dr Faulkner...Bottom Left, Casey Dice , our best ever Manager and Trainer, Dr Bob Wilkinson, head of surgery at Western Hospital, Uncle Murray, Our Goalie??, Larry Dallimore, Moi, and Johm "Dr Spock" Jarman and in the last row Mr Blades between 2 Jarman and Faulkner  Rabble Rousers!!....so how did we do??    Beat Ottawa 6 to 4, lost to Point Claire, 7 to 2, Tied Normaby 3 to 3 ...went to the Semis and lost toPoint Claire 7 to 3 !!

Top Left John Jarman who became Captain when I took over management duties, Dr Dymon, Ermie Shimano who retired about 4 years ago, Bruce Roberts who use to work for Nortel and about 10 years  ago moved to Calgary, Bob Brewster, Bob Tippett, Bill Gamache and Frank Soave,  Bottom Left, John Sudac , Ron Craig who has sponsored the Blades for the Last 25 years, Len Deflece who beat me by a point in the High school scoring, Rob Hamilton!! Do You have a Day?   He tried to take the team over! He almost destroyed our team, but thanks to Stone, Murray,Bruce, Ernie,  and others that I cannot remember we were able to boot him out...Katrhryn is on his lap, Murray and Moi......we lost the first game to Oakville 4 to 1, then we lost the second to Mississauga Bruins 4 to 2 and then lost to London 5 to 0...we decided to not go to Hamilton Tournaments again,,,awful arenas and lousy game times....Missing is Larry and Stone and I cannot remember why!!

Flash Back Circa 1987

Our first tournament in Florida be fore we renamed the team  "Gray Blades"  and what a Motley crew....Top left, John Soderberg from the Yukon, ex Hell's Angels guy that could barely skate, but nobody wanted to mess with him, even on our team!!...next is Larry Dallimore wearing the NHL Old timers Sweater officially given to him buyPeter Conacher!!..then there is John Jarman who scored most of our goals....Ed Batna who volunteered to go in net as we did not have a goalie for this tournament...next a friend of John Sudac and I do not remember his name....then we have Dr Bob.....bottom left is Dr Faulkner, Ronny Hurst who played for the Leafs in the mid 50's,,,me and John Sudac....and how did we do for our first start in Florida... well we beat Fort Erie 8 to 5 and then we won 6 to 1 against Central Ontario and lost to Winnipeg 2 to 3 in the last game of the opening round...so we advanced to the finals against the Florida Eldergators, featuring Rosie Paiement and many ex NHLers...... we were clobbered 10 to 2... big surprise!!

Holy Shit!!

Gray Blades lost 7 to 5 to the upstart Hawks, a team that has little resemblance to last year!!  I don't have the patience to search the Blog for the last time we had this many goals against......a total team collapse I guess.... missing our 2 top team scorers doesn't help

We were missing Andy (upper body injury),Reg (the same), Stone (Holiday) ....

We called up Marc Richards but lost him to a game ejection, same for Peter!! The Refs missed many penalties on the Hawks...they just don't like us!!....at least the folks at Jack's like us

And for the 3rd game in a row, the ref's call a penalty in the dying minutes when we had a chance to tie, but the Reds scored and we were done, once again, we were playing 2 teams!!.....our goals went to Chads, Quiggs, Peter, Marc and John.......Stone had 3 assists (for the Hawks!!)

Thursday Nov 12 Gray Blades 2 Lyons 2

The games started out as it should with the Gray Blades taking a 2-0 lead. But Lyons scored twice in the second period to tie things up.  For the second game in a row, a ref called a penalty against the Blades with 2 minutes left in a tie game.  This week, we escaped unscathed thanks to a great glove/shoulder save by Robbo on a shot that was heading top shelf. A shorthanded goal would have been sweet and we almost got one when Kerry got a breakaway. But their goalie came up with a save and the game ended tied at 2.  Mark and Reg got the goals. Tom got 2 assists and Jim got 3. The above according to Cub reporter Reg

It should be pointed out that the Blades failed to win this game even though they were missing their three ancient players!!

Flash Back November 1988

We were in an over 35 division in the London tournament and we advanced to the final only to lose. Where were Stone, Jarman and Craig?...no idea...too long ago! and who is this Motley Crew?...starting top left is Rick Batty who moved to Ottawa, Tom Dowswell who quit the Gray Blades because he would only play Defence, Mike JW, ex marine now living near Kingston, Dr Dymon who still attends our Golf tournament,  and me, Claude Balls Turner who was our manager that weekend and still lives in London, starting left at the bottom is Dieter Stein who has the distinction of being the only Gray Blade of the 100  or so that ever played for us,  that was asked to leave the team!!, Dr Faulkner who left the team unexpectantly in the mid 90's and we never knew why, his son MacGregor, on his knee played for St Lawrence University and was their top scorer, our Goalie who quit after this tournament and I don't remember his name, Larry who passed away this year, and Murray who still occasionally plays for the Blades and Claudes's son  Bart 

Larry  59 years old and me, 38 years old and dad held his own playing defence and we only had 3 D. He won the oldest player at the tournament as usual. There were no over 50 teams back then...in the next few tournaments, Dad would refuse the oldest player trophy as he got tired of it. You can tell this pic was taken after the game....notice our Original gray sweaters and Larry, the only guy in Oldtimers Hockey at the time to wear #69!!

5 break Aways (3 by Marc, maybe 4) and we made their Goalie look like Price!!

 The Ref calls a penalty on Kerry with 3 minutes to go, and Kerry had the worst of the collision!! He should stick to reffing frisbee matches

 and Urine Pond scores with 2 minutes to go

We pull our Goalie but we could not hit a cow in the ass with a handful of rice!!

So we are now 6 -2 -0 probably in second place, not sure because there are no stats anymore

Tonight we were missing Murray, Andy, Quiggs and Peter and Chads

Next week Tom is away, so  a little addition by subtraction

Jim and I join Rick at his box at the ACC where the improbable happens...Leafs beat Dallas 4 to 1 and Jim had 3 assists!!!
