Winter is here right on time!!  

The good news is from here on the days get longer!!!

they had 3 lines to our 2

And they scored early in the first period

In the early going they were mostly in our end

We were passing more to their players than to ours!! This team played way better then their standing indicates.

then in the 2nd period , Owen from deep in our end sees Andy at their Blue line and makes the Karllson pass right to the tape and Andy waltzes in all alone and does the seeing eye goal so we are back in the game!!!!!

Our goalie kept us in the game in the early going as we were all left footed.... Mike blew a tire on what would have been a break away so we chipped in a loonie to get him a skate sharpening!!!

Best turn out this year!!

so...3 goals by Andy and one each to Faster Pete and Johnny and , of course, Stone had 3 helpers

That is it for 2017...we leave in 1st place withs 4 other teams in hot pursuit...

Gray Blades dump Coopers 5 to Zippo

We were a bit worried before the game with so many on the shelf, we had only 6 skaters and 2 old guys we borrowed from the Home

we were missing Andy, Chads, Mark, Reggie,  Kerry (between the moon and New York City) Quiggs and Gordo and call up Craig and faster Marc were unavailable!! so we were missing most of the team!! and...and we were playing with Owen and Paul still in recovery mode!!!!

Last time we played this team they had what appeared to be 4 lines and they got an early 2 to zip lead and we managed to come back ,  but this time they had only 2 lines, so we had a chance.

Did I mention that Gerry was fantastic tonight, because there were times we were hemmed in our end and he stopped all that came his way ., He knew there would be no back checking by this crew!!!

2 goals by Faster Pete and 2 by Johnny (who should have had 4!!!! and the still injured Paul had a beauty change up clocked a 2 1/2 miles per hour that just managed to cross the red line!! Colin set a personal best with 4 assists...

In the 3rd period Hal playing centre for a moment , used his fantastic speed to get a partial breakaway , but was hauled down , resulting in a penalty, but we thought it should have been a penalty shot!!1

Best part was that Jim Stone had a 3 assist performance tonight and continues to lead in the scoring race.  Jim attributes his performance to clean living,  betting on Buffalo in all sporting events and eating wings every night with a shot of whiskey!!!

Most of what is left of the team showed up at Jacks for some diet pops!!

We ended up at this British Pub in King City for a night cap

But first stop was at Ron and Liz's new fabulous home in King City half way to the moon

after a brief stop there we headed out a few blocks away to the birthday party of Richard Tagusi and Mike Machida

A couple of guys we play hockey with in the Tuesday league and they also attend the Ron Craigs/Gray Blade annual Golf tournament at his courses at the Pines and Wooden Sticks

So we had 3 stops and I was the DD...now enjoying a well deserved Myers

We had Quiggs, Gordo,Paul, Mark and Reg all on the shelf with various injuries that we won't disclose so as our rivals wont know.

We were also missing Chads, Owen and Kerry with various lame excuses.

Casey;s added a couple of ringers and showed  great improvement. They had about 5 scratches in the stands, so they were very serious about beating us.

We had the bus heading to Omaha turn around  and head to MIssissauga, to give us the 3 players that we needed to make 10 skaters.

They included Ron Craig and 2 anonymous guys that played quite well for us on defence . 

Andy and Jim got our 2 goals.

With a minute or so to go, Johnny gets called for what they were doing to us all game, slashing.

and earlier the Refs allowed a questionable goal that appeared to enter a dislodged net...so we were playing 2 teams as usual. But the good news is Jim Stone got 3 assists.

Reg and Mark raced  each  other to Jack's to get the Handicap Parking 

Ron Craig joined  us for the Christmas celebration and the 2 anonymous guys headed back to Omaha

with so many of the young guys hurting, we discussed the Jim Stone diet and exercise program that Johnny A is thinking of implementing...Tanya offered to supervise.

Gray Blades dump Derbys 6 to 1

The Derbys had only 7 players to our 9 but they were their best players and they opened the scoring in the 1st period at the 6 minute mark, but that was all they had because Gerry would not let them back in the game.  We were missing Gordo, Kerry, Owen and Reg, not to mention Quiggs and Mark.

Jim had 2 beauties and this time it was on the opposition net. He also had an assist to give him his usual 3 point performance. Tom had the Gordie Howe hatrick, the goal on a nice cross ice pass from Hal, the assist on a relay to Chads and then to Johnny who took a shot from the low slot tough angle that managed to bulge the twine....and the penalty by trying to fend of some asshole that was hooking me,  Andy had the other 2 goals, both beauties and Chads had 3 assists, trying to catch up to Stone in the point race. Most importantly, Ron Craig, a call up from Omaha played 2/3 of the game tonight and was a plus 3!!!! Hal was forechecking and backchecking at great speed tonight and the Paul and Addy and Stone line was a force out there.

We welcome Gordo back!!!!!!

Gordo came out tonight to watch the Older Blades flounder in the Tuesday night league....great to see him on the road to recovery...we lost 3 to 1 and Jim scored the 3rd goal for the bad guys!!!!!  17 years ago I invited Gordo to join the Gray Blades because his daughters were so good  , i felt they got their talent from him, it was only later I learned that they got it from their Mom!!!!!

Blades lose the 1st game of the winter season 4 to 1, playing 2 teams!!!!!

Faster Pete is telling Jim he is going to be feisty this game and he was ,  booted out of the game early in the 3rd Period

We had 9 players to their 14 and were down to 8 players at the begining of the 3rd

Missing Gordo, Andy, Reg and Kerry.....I mean Really!!!! 

we were hacked and slashed all night and these guys never stopped the pressure

Our only goal was scored by Paul on a set up by Tom who was very aware of the need to make that pass work

yes we look dejected in the dressing room as it was our first loss in quite awhile

At least Jim Stone could be comforted as he managed to have another 3 assist performance tonight

all is not lost when you know there is a beer waiting at Jack's

Especially when Tanya is serving
