NHL alumni Ron Hurst passes away at 95

The NHL Alumni Association is deeply saddened to learn that Ron Hurst has passed away at the age of 95.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Ron played junior hockey with his hometown Toronto Marlboros beginning in 1948. Ron graduated to senior hockey in 1951, joining the Maritime Major Hockey League’s Saint John Beavers, before making stops in Ottawa, Charlottetown, and Sault Ste. Marie over the next four seasons.
Ron returned to Toronto in 1955 and joined his hometown Maple Leafs. On November 13, 1955, Ron made his NHL debut on the road against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Ron registered his first career point in his debut, picking up an assist on a first-period goal by Dick Duff. Three days later, on November 16, Ron scored his first NHL goal, fittingly on home ice at Maple Leaf Gardens. Ron appeared in 64 games across two seasons for Toronto.
After his time with the Maple Leafs, Ron continued with Toronto’s affiliate club in Rochester until 1958, then played two seasons with the Hershey Bears.
